Seismicity and Velocity Analysis with OBS Data in the Laurentian Fan, Atlantic Ocean
Elahe is investigating the seismicity of the Laurentian Fan region which has experienced a significant earthquake event of the Grand Banks (magnitude 7.2), the largest instrumentally recorded earthquake in southeastern Canada, which struck Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and was responsible for the tsunami that caused 28 casualties. Using both land and OBS data, she aims to gain a better knowledge of seismic activity along Canada’s eastern coast.
Elahe has a background in physics and obtained her MSc in seismology from the University of Tehran, Iran, where she investigated velocity changes as a precursor using Ambient Seismic Noise. She joined Mladen Nedimović’s working group at Dalhousie University, under the co-supervision of Miao Zhang, in 2022.
