The PIs of iMAGE-CREATE have a long history of knowledge transfer to industry, with more than 40 Collaborative Research and Development (NSERC-CRD) projects and other partnership projects involving more than 20 different companies. Industry sponsored Chairs at Ottawa, Memorial, and Laurentian are contributing directly to the training, and many geoscience companies participate by hosting students in the field and contributing to courses related to professional development.
Discussions are underway to establish working partnerships with international marine geoservice and geoscience consulting companies for internships and shared training experiences, including with Kraken Robotics, Mira Geoscience, BearingPoint, SRK Consulting, DMT-Group, Equinor, and GRID-Arendal.
A number of training initiatives of iMAGE-CREATE also depend on industry software platforms for mapping and geophysical data management that have been donated to the project, including: EIVA software used to edit and process raw bathymetry (NAVI Suite); PCI Geomatics software (now Catalyst) for automated image classification in mapping applications; IHS Markit software for seismic data interpretation, including sub-bottom acoustic data (Kingdom Suite); Petex petroleum engineering and structural geology software for geomechanical modeling and stress analysis of fracture-fault systems (MOVE 3D).
