Memberships

iMAGE-CREATE is supporting the participation of its students and trainees in a number of national and international research and training consortia.

CCOD Membership − iMAGE-CREATE is a participating member in the Canadian Consortium for Ocean Drilling (CCOD) which supports Canada’s membership in ECORD and the International Ocean Discovery Program of IODP. Membership in ECORD allows Canadian students and researchers to apply for and participate on Ocean Drilling expeditions around the globe and to participate in IODP summer schools, including the annual ECORD Summer School at the University of Bremen. Training modules include petrophysics, paleoclimatology, subseafloor fluid transport, continental drilling, and “The Virtual Drillship Experience” at the IODP Bremen core repository.

PDAC-SEG Membership − iMAGE-CREATE is a founding partner in the PDAC-SEG Student Minerals Colloquium at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) meeting in Toronto, attended annually by 25,000 professionals from industry and government. The Student Minerals Colloquium is a landmark event at PDAC, launched by uOttawa and Carleton in 2010 and now a joint event with the Society of Economic Geologists. The PDAC Minerals Colloquium and the Student-Industry Forum are the most important industry networking opportunities for our students. iMAGE-CREATE is also an official exhibitor at the PDAC Convention, together with OCGC.

InterRidge − iMAGE-CREATE and its partners (6 Canadian Institutions and the Marine Mineral Resources Group of GEOMAR) are members of the International InterRidge Consortium hosted by China, France, Norway, Canada, Germany, Italy, India, Japan, Korea and the UK. InterRidge and its Working Groups promote international actions in all aspects of ocean floor research, including student cruise bursaries, InterRidge Fellowships, and training events. University of Ottawa and GEOMAR are pioneer “investors” in the consortium, having provided the inaugural InterRidge Vents Database, now an indispensable tool for deep-sea research used globally. The 3rd decadal plan of InterRidge is focused on Formation and Evolution of the Oceanic Crust and Its Interaction with the Ocean, Biosphere, Climate and Society.

CFREF Metal Earth − iMAGE-CREATE is a participating member in the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) project Metal Earth, hosted by Laurentian University, which performs regional framework science on the metallogeny and mineral endowment of the Precambrian Shield of Canada. The project is Canada’s largest-ever research initiative on mineral resources. It is a strategic alliance of researchers from Canadian academia and international research centers, as well as governments and industry, seeking to understand why certain metals are present in such large quantities in some areas of the Canadian Shield and not in others. The project is centered on a series of unprecedented geophysical transects across the Shield, supported by large-scale geological mapping and geochemical surveys.

DFG-funded Research Training Group − iMAGE-CREATE is a participating member in the proposed Research Training Group (RTG) funded by the German Research Foundation, DFG, at Friedrich-Alexander Universitat Erlangen (FAU). The RTG is aimed at geodynamic controls on magmatic systems at subduction zones.

HGF Helmholtz Earth and Environment Topic 8: Georesources − iMAGE-CREATE is a participating member in the POFIV Helmholtz Earth and Environment Initiative on Georesources, a partnership of Helmholtz Institutes, including GEOMAR and GFZ Potsdam, aimed at defining georesources for the energy transition.
