Training at sea in iMAGE-CREATE is matched by field schools on land, providing students with first-hand knowledge and experience from the ancient oceans in different geological settings. In iMAGE-CREATE, trainees participate in two field schools (2 x 2 weeks) selected from a wide range of options (e.g., the Abitibi greenstone belt, the Trans-Hudson orogen, the Central Volcanic Belt of Newfoundland, the Troodos ophiolite, Aegean subduction complexes, northern Nevada, and the Iceland Rift Zone). The focus of each field school is on aspects of crustal growth and metallogeny in modern and ancient volcanic belts, structural and magmatic evolution of the studied terranes, and the tectonics of each setting. In addition to intensive field-based instruction, students participate in workshops and attend lectures that support the field schools, including aspects of mapping techniques and technologies.
Field-based training are one of the most important networking opportunities for HQP from different institutions and different countries. So far, 6 HQP from different partners have been hosted in international field schools. These exchanges will continue throughout the iMAGE-CREATE. Students interested in applying for financial support for other field experiences can do so by contacting the directorate of iMAGE-CREATE.
