Alex Hutchison – MSc candidate, Saint Mary’s University
Au mineralization in the Golden Triangle
Alex’s research focuses on identifying the structural and lithologic controls on gold mineralization in the Blueberry Zone of the Scottie Gold deposit, which is located in the Stewart-Iskut mineral belt of the Cordilleran Orogen in British Columbia. Combining detailed field mapping and laboratory work focusing on host rock lithology, alteration styles, mineralization is done to produce an ore deposit model for the area. The results of this study have significant implications for future exploration in the Golden Triangle.
Alex finished her BSc at Mount Royal University in 2021, where she completed an Honours Research project under Dr. Meg Stewart. Alex was then kindly accepted by Dr. Meg Stewart and Dr. Jacob Hanley as an MSc candidate at Saint Mary’s University. Before starting her MSc in Halifax, Alex spent the summer 2021 field season re-logging core and mapping the Blueberry Zone for her MSc project, and working for Serac Exploration Limited in Beatty, Nevada.
