Michael Ryan – MSc candidate, uOttawa
Lau Basin-North Fiji magmatic productivity
Michael is mapping and analyzing volcanic features of four assemblages in the Lau and North Fiji basins in order to determine the variability and controls on magmatic productivity. He is using bathymetry and backscatter data to better understand these modern microplate domains, comparing them to ancient greenstone belt terranes such as the Abitibi of the southern Superior Province.
Michael finished his BSc Hon. at uOttawa in 2020, gathering GIS experience studying x-ray computed micro-tomographic images of vesicles in volcanic rocks to determine explosivity factors. Besides the recognition on the Dean’s Honour List in the Winter 2020 term and the TD Green Bursary that he received twice, Michael is also the current Ottawa-Carleton University SEG student chapter Vice President.
