Quan Zhang – PhD candidate, uOttawa
Monitoring and imaging the restless subduction zone
Quan’s research focuses on locating seismic events and depicting the crustal and upper mantle structures in the subduction zone. In his study, he tries to build a complete catalogue of local earthquakes and to generate a seismic image of the subduction zone (e.g., in New Zealand) by denoising and phase reconstruction, hoping to reveal the contrast between seismogenic zone and aseismic zone, as well as the interaction between large-magnitude and slow-slip events.
Before joining Pascal Audet’s research group at uOttawa as a CREATE trainee, Quan completed his M.Sc. at Zhejiang University in 2022 and his B.Eng. at Central South University in 2019. He was awarded the National Scholarship (China) and the Outstanding Graduate Student (Zhejiang Prov., China) during his MSc. studies.
