Taylor Tracey Kyryliuk – PhD candidate, University of Ottawa
Seismic investigation of subduction zone structure
Taylor’s research uses passive-source seismology to probe the structure of the Earth’s lithosphere in and around subduction zones. Their research focuses on the subducting Pacific slab and surrounding tectonic structures in both Haida Gwaii and New Zealand, hoping to better constrain the risk of large earthquakes and tsunami. Geophysical results will be obtained by a newly deployed array of submarine and terrestrial seismic stations
Taylor obtained a BSc Hon. at the University of Windsor in 2019 before joining the working group of Pascal Audet at uOttawa as a CREATE trainee in 2020. The University of Windsor awarded them the LEAD Medallion Scholar Gold Medal and the Dr. Lucjan Krause Undergraduate Scholarship in Physics. Taylor also brings industry experience to the CREATE team after working for Camufacturing Solutions as a research assistant for two years.
