NGEA 2024 Student Finalists
iMAGE-CREATE trainee Kaan Onat and his team mates have been selected as finalists of the Frank Arnott – Next Generation Explorers Award (NGEA™)
The NGEA™ Challenge is an international competition hosted by the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) where geoscience students collaborate in teams to work with several high-quality geoscience dataset packages in order to generate their own interpretation of the subsurface geology and mineralization targets.
The students on the Tethyan Explorers Team include Koray Taşbiçen, Kaan Onat, Algan Mert Yaşar & Uğur Şahin from the Colorado School of Mines (USA), University of Ottawa (Canada), Utrecht University (Netherlands), and the Technical University of Munich (Germany) respectively.
The Tethyan Explorers are one of the six finalists and will be presenting their work on the Quesnel Trough Dataset at the PDAC 2024 Convention in March. This year’s challenge features a grand prize of CAD $5,000 for the team with the highest judges’ score, and three prizes of CAD $3,000 for the categories of: 1) Innovation, 2) Data integration and 3) Impact & Exploration Significance.
