2022 PDAC Convention (in-person), Toronto, ON
Wednesday, June 15th, 2022
iMAGE-CREATE and University of Ottawa earth science students (Ryley Penner, Tatiana Sitnikova, Michael Ryan, and Taylor Tracey Kyryliuk) met with several representatives from Newmont for a formal discussion at the PDAC 2022 convention in Toronto, ON.
The representatives from Newmont included Sally Goodman (Chief Global Geologist), Selina Wu (Manager, Exploration, Technical Development), Kathryn Macwilliam (Principal Geomodeler), Simon Marshall (Global Chief Geochemist), and Scott Briscoe (Regional Chief Geologist – North America). The students met to discuss their individual expertise, backgrounds, and passions, as well as to discuss other academic experiences and potential opportunities related to the fields of economic geology.
As one of the largest gold mining companies in the world, Newmont is among the important corporate partners of the University of Ottawa, sponsoring a professors Chair in Economic Geology within the Faculty of Science. Engagement with students represents one of the key forms of stewardship from these donors, and creates an opportunity to develop greater understanding of the student experience while simultaneously building greater engagement that ultimately is positive and productive.
