iMAGE-CREATE runs session at AGU with four iMAGE-CREATE trainees presenting
iMAGE-CREATE will host a session at this years AGU in Washington D.C. between the 9th and 13th of December. The oral session, V11B Linking Magmatic, Tectonic, and Hydrothermal Processes in Arc–Back-Arc and Mid-Ocean Ridge Settings will convene on Monday 9th, 8:30-10:00am, Room 206, Convention Center with the poster session later that day (13:40-17:30, Hall B-C, Poster Hall, Convention Center).
A total of six iMAGE-CREATE trainees will attend AGU, Sarah Moriarty (Memorial University), David Summer (University of Toronto), Jade Umbsaar (University of Toronto), Sam Nichols (University of Toronto), Quan Zhang (University of Ottawa), and Pinar Gurun (Dalhousie University).
Session Abstract:
Arc-backarc and mid-ocean ridge (MOR) settings represent the most magmatically and hydrothermally active regions on Earth. These settings have been the focus of marine expeditions over the last 70 years, but the geodynamic complexities are only just now being revealed in detail and at a range of spatial and temporal scales. Individual systems are geodynamically quite complex and not simply extensional settings, with both compressional and transcurrent regimes that can strongly influence their magmatic and hydrothermal activity. Certain aspects, such as how oceanic rifts initiate and evolve with time, the structure of the evolving back-arc basins, and the role of far-field stresses are being examined in a number of different arc-backarc and mid-ocean ridge settings. This session will explore recent developments in geophysics, geochemistry, geodynamics, petrology, numerical modelling, remote predictive mapping that are advancing our view of the magmatic, tectonic, and hydrothermal processes.
Best of luck to all the attendees!
