Tertiary Volcanic-Hosted Epithermal Precious Metal Deposits of the Walker Lane Trend, SW Nevada

General Overview:
The trip will start and end at Harry Reid International Airport (formerly McCarran International Airport) in Las Vegas. Early site visits will include the low-sulfidation systems at Aurora/Borealis and the Round Mountain mine, the first major gold mine in North America to be established on the basis of heap leaching as the principal mode of ore processing. The trip will then visit historic mining areas seeing renewed exploration, including the Tonopah (intermediate-sulfidation) and Goldfield (high-sulfidation) districts. Several days are planned in the Beatty area, visiting areas of past mining and current exploration.

Requirements:
This trip is open to all active SEG Student Members who are currently enrolled at an accredited university. Participation is limited to 15-20 students and acceptance is competitive.
